6 Common Questions asked about Going Blonde

We want to touch base on the most common questions asked about going blonde. So lets jump right in:

1. Will Blonde work for me?

Choosing the right hair-color is about much more that liking a photo on Pinterest or Instagram. From eye color, skin tone, face shape, there are several factors that go into determining if a hair color will work for you.  Does it mean I have to stay away from all Blondes if my skin tone is a specific color? No, it just means that your stylist will have to pick the proper Blonde tone to complement your personal features. Will Blonde work for me?  YES

2. What is the Maintenance like for a Blonde?

When going Blonde, maintenance is something to consider.  Maintenance can be any where from every 3 weeks to 5 weeks depending on what you are going after.  For instance if you want to be a full platinum blonde, mean Blonde from Root to Ends, you will be in the Salon minimally every 3 weeks. If you decide to do a Balayage you can stretch that out to coming in for a touch up ever 4-5 weeks. The difference is in choosing the direction is when going full Platinum you will have a very visual growth where Balayage is a very natural grow out that allows more time between visits.

3. What products should I have at home to maintain my color.

Home products are important if you want to maintain the vibrancy, shine and tone of your hair color. Let your stylist direct you in the specific products to use and steps to take to keep the integrity of your hair as well as maintaining your blonde. For instance your stylist may suggest switching your daily shampoo from a deeper cleansing option to one that is color safe and free of sulfates, or they may put you on a purple shampoo to help with your tone once a week. Just allow them to direct you on what is the best products that will work for your personal needs.

4. How long will the results last? [

While hair color maintenance is important, it's also good to understand the timeline of the hair color itself. Some colors may last longer on the hair, while others tend to fade more quickly.  It all comes down to how well your hair type can hold  color as well as the texture of the hair itself.  Talking through this point with your stylist will help you to better understand the life of your soon to be hair color.

5. Will going blonde cause irritation?

Everyone's skin reacts differently to different stimulants, chemicals and products. If you're aware of a certain skin condition or sensitivity, be sure to let your stylist know beforehand. Having his conversation prior to color application will ensure that your stylist uses products that are safest for you.

 6. How often should i wash my hair?

Once your hair is colored, your hair care routine might need to change. In order to keep up with this new development, be sure to ask your stylist how often you should cleanse your hair.  While over washing can lead to fading color, lack of cleansing can lead to product build up.  Find the  perfect balance for your hair routine by discussing your hair type and porosity with your stylist.

Are there other questions that are asked about going blonde? YES, but these are the top.  If you have other questions, always talk to your stylist, ask questions and have an open dialogue so you have all your answers before you start the process.

Does Your Face-Shape Matter When Considering Highlights? Yes!!!!

If you have ever been around a Girl Friend, Wife, Mother, Sister, or even some Men, you have seen or know about contour with make up.  Contouring gives your face clean lines and dimension, but that same concept can be used when considering your face-shape and the type or placement of highlights. This week we are going to talk about exactly that, what should you and your stylist think about when considering highlights. So lets dive in to what works on each of the 6 face-shapes.

Heart-Shaped Face: If you have a Heart-Shaped face a balayage is going to be your friend.  So we want to soften your wider forehead and narrowing chin think about adding highlights/balayage to the bottom of your hair, leaving the top of your hair/root darker.  We want to bring the eye away from the wider section of your face.

Round-Shaped Face: You will find that the Round and Square face have similar issues.  With highlighting properly you can elongate the face to create that slimmer look. When considering Highlights for a round face consider lighter colors at the top of your head and the hairline.  Also, consider adding shading to the sides of your face with darker tones underneath your ears toward the ends of your hair, to give the oblong look we all want.

Square-Shaped Face: Since a Square-Shaped face have wide features with a prominent jaw line, you  should consider highlights and low lights on the corners of your face.  This  will create lots of dimension and layers around your face. You can create an oblong face with highlighting at the top of the head and shading down the sides to soften your strong features to a slimmer face shape.

Rectangle-Shaped Face: This shape being a mix of the oblong and the Square shape you should consider adding volume to the sides as well as highlights from the temple down.  Another great way to bring in balayage to bring width to your face shape.

Diamond-Shaped Face: With amazing cheek bones and narrowing forehead and chin, you can balance this look by adding light and volume from the cheekbones down.

Oval-Shaped Face: One of the luckier shapes is Oval which is considered to be one of the more balanced shapes. They can make any hairstyle work for their face shape but when highlighting you should consider adding more highlights to the sides. This along with adding extra volume on the sides highlights near your ears will create a visual of width to your face shape.

So no matter your face shape there is the perfect Highlight to embellish your natural beauty.

There are 6 face shapes that many people do not take in to consideration when deciding the cut they want.  Today's lets talk about knowing your face shape and picking out the perfect cut for your face.

Heart-Shaped Face: If your chin is pointed and the widest part of your head is your forehead, you have a heart-shaped face. A widow's peak is a common attribute for a heart-shaped face but not all heart-shaped faces have widow's peaks.  Now the fun part of this face shape is you have options for your hair style.  One common hair style is generally based around the bang, many people want to soften the wide forehead with bangs like a side-swept bang, a brow touching bang, long layered cut or even a pixie.  You have options for this shape so have fun with this shape.  If you are still confused on exactly what this shape looks like let me throw a Celeb name out there to give you visual to know for sure.  Reese Witherspoon

Round-Shaped Face: A Round-Shaped face is very similar to Square.  The sides of your face curve slightly out instead of being straight. Your chin is rounded and your cheek bones are the widest part of your face. The best hair style for you will be Chin Length and Long Bobs (aka LOB), soft, face framing layers; long bangs.  Take a look at Jennifer Lawerence for your Celeb visual.

Rectangle-Shaped Face: Rectangular faces are also called Oblong. They are similar to the Square-Shaped face but longer.  You forehead, cheek bone and jawline are approximately the same width and your chine will be slightly curved.  Your best hair style with be soft waves; Long face framing layers or a chin length bob. Your Celeb visual will be Sarah Jessica Parker.

Square-Shaped Face: If the sides of your face are straight and your jawline is slightly angled with minimal curve you have a Square-Shaped face.  Your face is generally as wide as it is long, if you measure from your temple to where your jawline starts it will be basically the same width.  You have sharp angular features, including a sharp jawline. Great hair cuts for Square-Shaped Face is Chin Length and Long Bob (aka: LOB); soft, face framing layers and long bangs.  Your Celeb visual for a Square-Shaped face would be Cameron Diaz or Rhianna.

Diamond-Shaped Face: You have always heard the saying Diamonds are a girls best friend it works exactly the same is Face Shape.  Diamond-Shaped faces have a pointed chin with lovely high cheek bones, imagine drawing a line from the center or your hair line to you cheek bones then connecting the line to your chin, it would create a diamond shape. The Best hair cut for you would be Long Layers; Side Swept Bang or a Lovely Shag.  If you think you have a Diamond-Shaped face take a look at Jennifer Lopez as a quick Celeb Visual.

Oval-Shaped Face: People with Oval-Shaped Faces have a forehead that is only a tiny bit wider than their curved chin. Imagine an upside down egg.  Although imagining your face shape is an upside down egg, you are one of the luckier shapes as almost any hair style will work for your face shape. You can rock everything from and Angular Bob to a Long Beach Wave, there are really no limits for this shape.  Still need a visual?  Kelly Rowland would be your Celeb Visual.
