The salon has always been open to who ever came through the door, but there has always been an thought that the salon was for women and women alone. It is time to blow this myth out of the water. Men, we are here for your hair needs as well. 

With today's styles, the salon is seeing more and more men come through the door and the stylist are happy to see you come through the door.  Men are coming into the world of color and exploring new looks beyond the the traditional buzz cut or thought of just shave it all off.  Also with the strides that have been made in color, keeping the color that god gave you is a thing of the past.  It is a new world with tons of possibilities.

2019 Hair Resolution

2019 is a few days away and it is time to start thinking about your hair going into the new year.  Generally we start thinking about the perfect body we would like to obtain as a new year resolution, and if you are like me that last about a month.  If you want an obtainable resolution for 2019 think about your hair. There are many things you can achive with your hair in 2019.  You can grow longer or cut it shorter but if you like the length, what about color.  Let 2019 be the year of the color!! 

What color is sitting on your head now that could go from average to awesome. How about throwing a fantasy color in a couple of appropriate places in your hair to give your 2019 hair look a pop.  We have everything ranging from pink to green so your pop of color or colors have no limits. You may be thinking, what if a bright fantasy color is not my thing, maybe you are looking for suttle changes for 2019.  If you have darker hair, have you thought about throwing in some highlights to give great deminsion to your hair.  You could go for a balayage, ombrey, regular highlights or even baby lights depending on how dramatic you want your hair change to be.

What if you are a Blonde and just need it freshened up.  Your blonde is an open book of posibilities.  You can add deminsion with lighter or darker blonde tones.  You can add pops of color to your blonde hair.  You can shadow root your blonde hair, the possibilities are endless.  Becoming a Blonde in 2019 can be a great resolution for anyone.

New Hair Color New Wardrobe?

When coloring your hair, remember there are underlying pigments in the color that can turn you from a Cool Blonde to a Warm Blonde or vice versa.  When you change the tone of your hair everything on you, your favorite shirt, make-up and even your favorite colors that use to look amazing on you can look different.  

Can you mix and match cool and warm tones and get away with it, yes of course you can and sometime you may even love the contrast but just keep in mind things are going to look different.  Before you change the tone of your hair think about your make-up, think about your wardrobe and make sure they compliment each other.  Also, your make-up may need to change or tweak to a cooler tone or warmer tone, but you can still look fabulous. 

The main thing to remember is when you change the tone it is going to take you a second to get use to your new look.  Give it time before you panic...yes, you look great!!!  Don't forget if you do change the tone, it is Christmas ask your special someone to help you get to the look you are going for...you are worth it.  Get that new make-up or new clothes to go with your new hair color.  Going into the New Year Let's Look Fabulous.

Keeping your Blonde, Bright and Fresh

There are different ways to keep your blonde look on point, but one of my favorites is the The Perfect Blonde by Pravana. Living in Tampa Florida we deal with HARD H2O, Beach life and SUN SUN SUN, which can dull your Blonde Hair. With Pravana The Perfect Blonde it is easy to refresh with a simple and easy shampoo. 

We carry 4 different products within The Perfect Blonde hair line. The difference between the 3 is the tone of your hair, are you a brassy blonde, a brunette with to much warmth or a natural blonde that wants to extra cool tone. Tampa Blondes tend to over shampoo, some times several times a week.  Generally it is important to remember over washing can be damaging to your hair. South Tampa Florida Blondes, Let's Talk Hair Commitment to Your Hair

This weeks blog is to educate our clients on maintenance and maintaining their hair.  Why certain services cost more than others and why knowing your commitment before you get the color is important.

If you can't commit to your hair color of choice we need to as your colorist have a discussion about this, so your color specialist can point you in the right direction!!  In a consultation it is very important to let your stylist know how often you have your hair colored and the topic no one wants to discuss, what is your budget?  Once those two areas have been established your color specialist can create and maintain the color of your dreams.

Platinum Blonde:
One popular service asked for in Salon's is Platinum Blonde. For Platinum Blondes we are the salon, color specialist for South Tampa Blondes.  One key point on going Platinum Blonde is retouch, retouch, retouch. A retouch for a Platinum Blonde is 1 inch of regrowth, yes ladies and gents, 1 inch!!!!   What does this mean for the Beautiful Platinum Blondes, you will need to have a retouch every 4 weeks.

You may ask WHY retouch at 1 inch?  If there is more than 1 inch of regrowth you start the nasty yellow rings that can be the thorn in the side of Color Stylist.  Yellow rings are not the easiest task to blend out which puts you into the UGLY service of a color correction. The reason you move into a color correction service is the the hair does not lift at that point the same.  Each section of the regrowth has to be approached differently. Bottom line if you are going for the Platinum Blonde retouch every 4 weeks or move to a color correction which starts at 100 an hour and will take twice the amount of time in the salon.

Balayage:
A low maintenance girls dream hair color service is a balayage. Although a Balayage, Hair Cut and Glaze may cost you around 250.00 and up, it is less to maintain!!! As a Tampa Colorist I tell all my Balayage clients to redo their balayage ever 8 weeks.  If at 8 weeks your balayage still looks amazing  just a fresh hair shape, treatment and maybe freshen up your money piece, (face framing hair color) every 5 weeks. Also you may just need the balayage brightened up from sun fading since we are in Tampa Bay, swimming or salt water from being at the beach.

Shadow Root, Extension and Hand Painted Ends:
Shadow root, extensions and hand painted ends seems low maintenance there are things to remember in maintaining this style. Glazes (toners) fade, some faster than others depending on the condition of the hair and your activities in life, swimming, working on your tan in the sun or just a day at the beach. Your color specialist will recommend the entire service being redone every 7-8 weeks and recommend redoing your glaze (toner) every 3-4 weeks.

Regular Highlights:
Regular highlights are recommended to be redone every 5-6 weeks. Waiting longer that the recommended time can turn your service into a color correction simply because your color specialist has to make your color even.  This has nothing to do with the skill of the colorist but the Law of COLOR.  So the recommended plan for regular highlights Full Highlight, Partial the Next appointment and then following up with a Full Highlight the next service.

Vivid Colors:
Vivid colors are a HUGE DISCUSSION!!!! We can never promise how long these colors will hold.  Again, this has nothing to do with the skill of the colorist but all about the Law of Color and Condition of hair.  Vivid colors are a high maintenance hair color service.  Your colorist will recommend less shampooing, and refreshing your color every 3-4 weeks. 

We always want our clients happy when they leave the salon but most important is that the client is still happy when they return for their next scheduled service.  So, Let's Talk, Let's Communicate and Build a great relationship.

South Tampa Blonde Hair, Let's Talk Social REVIEWS, the forbidden topic.

Let’s talk reviews on social media anywhere from Yelp, Facebook, and Google. Coming from the old school we never worried about social media and the web reviewers, all work was from word of mouth this is a topic that we must discuss because in the world of photo shop and Pinterest everyone wants instant gratification and sometimes that is not possible. Stylist have to start somewhere and that is with the canvas that is presented. Salons and stylist have been held to higher standards now that reviews have taken over. Client now don’t listen to stylist they listen to google in there research. 

Old ways clients come in with magazine pictures and we talk about how we can achieve the look and move forward with service. New ways client comes in with formula they pull off internet and have black hair and want to be blonde in one service and pay 100 dollars.  Welcome to Pinterest and Photo Shop, that isn't reality.

Listen we have received reviews on Color Correction that don't paint a full picture. Color Corrections can be a costly service and the results may not happen in one day. Even thou It was explained in consultation. We are told they didn’t get what they wanted from the stylist they 1st went to, but never explain the condition of their Hair before the original service. When is the best time to give us a review of your hair, at the time of your consultation.  Let us know everything that has happened to your hair, how was it before your original service, what are you really expecting, then let us work with you to get you there.

Can a negative review turn into a positive? Yes, as a salon and blonde hair color experts in South Tampa, we will listen to feedback and grow from there. We do are best to please our clients, but also keep your hair in the best shape it can be.  The integrity of your hair is a high priority, destroying it in one day to meet your goal is not, let us take our time to get you to your goal.

So as business owner I never go off reviews when I pick a place because a lot of time you cant respond as a business over like you would want u and a lot of time a lot of people take advantage of this service to hold a review over your head to get service for free listen we all about better are business but I believe it has been taking to far.

To Consult, or not to Consult, that is the question....

Is a consultation important? YES!!!!

The vision you have for your hair can sometimes be hard to explain, but that is where the consultation comes into play.  In a consultation you get the opportunity to explain your vision and it gives your stylist the opportunity to write the map to your goal.  

When going to your consultation, have a list of questions you want to ask like, can this be done in one visit, is my hair integrity good for getting me to my goal, what is this going to cost, what products do you use and will you be able to recommend after care products.  In many cases the vision may take time and your stylist in the consultation, will be able to let you know what to expect and the important question, what is this going to cost.   

No matter your vision or goal, whether it is a warm blonde, cool silver, or a platinum blonde, maintaining the integrity of your hair should be the top priority of your stylist.  We tend to have a, I want it now mentality, but when making big changes from Dark to Blonde it takes time.  Let your stylist lead you on this journey to your new look.  

Many times especially at UBU we will send our clients home with take home products to start strengthening the hair for the services they are about to begin.  For instance the Olaplex Home treatment Kit.  Olaplex helps replenish the bond of the hair strain to be able to handle the chemicals that will be involved in getting you to your new look. It can also be added to the chemicals used at the time of your service to help protect your hair.  It is a product that we recommend to all our Tampa Blonde clients.
