10 Major Hair Trends to Try Right Now

How did you express yourself in 2019? How will you change your hair this year?

Change can be exciting, and what better time to make a change than now.

Face the challenges of the "new norm" with a new do, that inspires you and excites you!

Although there is an onslaught of options, in this blog post we are sharing the top 10 haircut and hair color trends that we are predicting will be among the hair trends in 2021. So, keep reading to explore our hair trends list.

1. Lob (long bob)

First up on our hair trends 2020 list is none other than the "lob”.

This type of bob sits just above your shoulders unlike the typical bob which sits at the jaw line. This look gives you long enough hair to still tie it up, which can be a total lifesaver for sweaty gym sessions or other active days, but is short enough that you can still play with textures and an edgier look.

2. Jagged edge bob

The basic bob isn’t cutting it anymore or at least this is a different take on the classic, blunt bob. We're predicting that more texture will be a must for the bob cut. This means the cut isn’t cut to one length—instead it’s layered and choppy.

3. Color Contrasting

This is a bold color look not for the faint of heart. Instead of straight lines of color when you opt for highlights or a balayage, the color contrasting trend calls for something a bit more dramatic. Instead, you’ll have puddles of contrasting color, and your hairstylist will use a technique to jaggedly add these this color to your hair.

4. Face framing highlights

This look requires face framing highlights at the front of your hair giving you a desired lift. If you opt for warm tones then this look is going to add warmth, and brighten up your face like a halo. Another benefit to trying this particular 2020 hair trend, is that it isn’t high-maintenance and will grow out seamlessly.

5. Bangs are back...micro bangs specifically

We just had to include this one on our hair trends list! This face framing bang style starts a couple inches above your eyebrows. This super stylish bang look will be seen even more in 2021 and so far, people either really love it or hate it, either way it’s clear that these bangs make a statement.

6. Peek a boo hair color

This is a fun little pop of color without going all in on a full head of a color. Peek a boo highlights are colored highlights added under the top layer of your hair, so that they are slightly hidden. Usually it’s a small patch of a vibrant color that you can only see when you have a bun or just depending on the movement of your hair. Experiment with more traditional colors or even pastels and other more edgy colors. This look is all about the element of surprise.

7. Bronde

Not sure whether to go blonde or brunette? Don’t worry, now introducing “bronde” the in between color that celebrities and models alike are sporting. This hair color can be achieved in so many different ways by mixing in different tones of blonde and brown. The positive is that keeping the brown tones means it’s less harsh on your hair shaft than bleaching it to a lighter blonde tone.

8. Red hair

Gorgeous red hair color, will also be among hair trends. This color warms you up, and looks fiery, red, hot! Opt for shampoos that are sulfate free since these will strip your color. The one thing to watch out for when going red is that we admit that red tends to fade faster than other color and when red does fade, it is more noticeable.

9. Curly highlights

In 2020 we predicted that girls with thick curly manes will get more playful with highlights to add drama and dimension to their curls. Be careful with coloring your curly hair, since curly hair already tends to be on the dry and frizzy side.

10. Bowl cut

The famously cringe bowl cut, is making a comeback. Now, not necessarily a horrible mishap when your mom decided to go a little too scissor crazy on your hair when you were younger, this look has been sported by famous celebrities -- on purpose, might I add. Similar to the shaved head, we’re not sure everyone can pull off this look, but it has become a stylish and fashionable haircut.

Why Hair Extensions Are EVERYTHING Right Now!

After being away from your stylist for the past few months you're probably ready for a new look and a different style.

Maybe it's time to consider adding some length to your short locks... and that's where we come in! Hair extensions are the way to not only achieve length but thicker more volumous hair.

Hair extensions have had a bad rep for a long time- we're talking visible bonds, matted, and fake-looking My Little Pony-style hair. We have even heard horror stories of people left with serious damage to their scalp after they were taken out!

Nowadays though, there are so many excellent and realistic types on the market that can help you get the look of really healthy hair - instantly.

We asked our team for the low down on exactly what's you can expect when trying this new style for yourself…

Who are extensions for?

Anyone that is looking to enhance their hair. It can be as subtle as just adding a small amount of volume just for thickness and to fill out. Or someone who is looking to have a big change, who might want to add lots of length and volume.

Is there anyone who shouldn't get extensions?

Usually there is always a method to suit all hair types. That’s why we always recommend a consultation before your appointment to assess your hair and guide you in the right direction. For clients that are suffering from hair loss, we would recommend waiting until the hair is stable before getting them.

What types of extensions are available?

There are many types of hair extensions out there and the product has come on hugely in design over the last five years. Permanent extensions traditionally come in the form of a weave which can be bonded by glue or braided in. However, nowadays there are many more options to choose from.
A semi-permanent method would be to use invisible tapes that lasts between 6-8 weeks, and an even more temporary method - the completely seamless clip-ins. You have to take these out each evening and we recommend wearing them on average three to four times a week.

Do extensions need to be dyed to your hair color?

We would not recommend dying your hair extensions. Instead let us color blend your hair extensions to match your hair.
This is the best way to ensure a perfect color match and the best quality of your hair extensions.

How should you care for extensions?

The top three things we recommend are to use a volume or clarify shampoo, wear hair in a mid to low ponytail not to wear any high buns or ponytails as over direction isn’t safe for your own hair. Also always rough dry your hair with your hands to around 80% before styling with a brush.

Do extensions work in all hair types?

Different methods work better for different hair types. For example, if someone has very curly hair, the micro ring method is great as they sit very flat to the head and heat can be applied very close to the root. Your stylist will help you through which is best for you.

How do you take extensions out?

The method you have will determine how they are removed but you should always get them removed by a specialist so that you don't damage the roots.

How do you care for your hair after you've had extensions out?

Just like you did before! Nothing will change. If you have worn you're extensions for a couple of months you may want to have a trim of your ends as you would normally however.
We hope you will give us a call soon to schedule your extension consult. Let's bring your hair goals to LIFE!!

The Healthy Hair Guide- How to Keep your Hair Healthy and Vibrant While Away from your Stylist

Here at UBU we miss you! So we went ahead and compiled some tips below to help your hair stay healthy and soft while at home, away from us. We look forward to re-opening in the coming weeks and seeing you soon!

Tip #1: Protect Your Hair

It’s vital you are protecting your hair from the sun, wind, and rain. But additionally, exposure to excessive sun, heat, dirt, and pollution can add to our already existent hair problems. From dirt build-up, drying out of your hair and scalp and increased susceptibility to infections on the scalp it’s good practice to wear hats.

Tip #2: Regular Conditioning is key

Use a moisturizing   conditioner (like some of our Kevin Murphy in salon products) each week! Missing this step could be the reason your hair is frizzy and unhealthy.

And with that being said…

Tip #3: Condition it the Right Way

Conditioners are formulated to seal in the moisture content in the hair shaft. They are not meant for the scalp.

The Best Way to Condition:

  • Start conditioning about 2 inches away from your scalp
  • Use a small amount of conditioner on the scalp
  • Over conditioning will only make the hair excessively oily

Tip #4:  Don’t Over Apply Heat On Hair

Avoid using heat on your hair. Heat strips the moisture content from your hair, making it dry and frizzy. When done too often it can also burn your hair!

Tip #5: Dry Hair Cautiously

Pat your hair dry. Do not rub vigorously with a towel. You might dry your hair faster, but the amount of hair that breaks and falls away also doubles up.
Here is a Dry Hair Remedy you can make at home:

You Will Need
·                 2 tbsp Almond Oil
·       2 tbsp Olive Oil
·       2 tbsp Jojoba Oil
·    2 tbsp Coconut Oil

Apply and leave on for 20 minutes then wash!
